Beefless & Broccoli Lo Mein

For our final Meat Free Meet Ups recipe series, DJ BBQ is catching up with Max La Manna, the epic zero-waste chef. Max is cooking along with the barbecue king to whip up a delicious Beefless and Broccoli Lo Mein using The Unbelievable ALT. Tender Beefless Pieces, to prove to us all that following a flexitarian diet doesn’t need to be difficult. This is a zero-compromise and seriously tasty dish.

Beefless & Broccoli Lo Mein


1x 160g pack of The Unbelievable ALT. Tender Beefless Pieces
1 large broccoli, separate into florets and chop the stem into matchsticks
100g vegan ramen or linguini noodles
1 tablespoon sesame oil (or any neutral oil) or ¼ cup veggie broth (for water sauté)
1 onion, sliced lengthwise
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 carrots, cut into matchsticks or thinly sliced diagonally
1 large red bell pepper, julienned
3-4 tablespoons tamari, coconut aminos, or soy sauce
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or mirin
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
2-3 teaspoons dark sesame oil (toasted)
Red pepper flakes or sriracha, to taste (optional)
4-6 green onions
Bean sprouts, to taste
Coriander, to taste

    Cook the noodles according to the package instructions. For the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli to the saucepan with the noodles, strain and set aside.

    In a mixing bowl whisk the tamari, maple syrup, sesame oil, rice vinegar and set aside. Add a pinch of red chilli flakes or sriracha for a bit of heat.

    In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add the onion and fry for 3 minutes until soft. Add garlic, carrots, and red pepper and fry for another 3 minutes.

    Next, add The Unbelievable ALT. Tender Beefless Pieces to the frying pan and stir-fry for another 3-5 minutes.

    Add the noodles, broccoli and sauce, mix well to combine. Add the green onions to finish and mix again for another minute.

    Serve immediately with bean sprouts and fresh coriander and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.
